Mr monkey goes to the bathroom great time for social and language skills/ Mr monkey va al bano

Social play! social play! Social play! what a great tool to gain language and new vocabulary and pro social skills. Today Tarek decided that Mr monkey need it to go to the bathroom before him Lol! So we took him, have fun pretending Mr monkey was going Number 2 ,cleaning him , and flashing the toilet. Of course after Mr monkey tarek decided to invite Mr horse and Mr monkey 2 :)
Reciprocal turn talking is like a pin pon game and it is key to develop conversation, but in children with communication delays is more difficult to achieved. Children with down syndrome often let Us to do the talking and we get very comfortable and do the talking and tent to forgot they need an extra push to get the conversation going. The word "waiting" is the key for so many conversation with Tarek, I will ask questions or comment on something and wait for tarek response. it take usually longer than other children but he "can" answer. Tarek language grows during the summer, he is the typical children that will opted to "not talk" and teachers and peers tent to forgot that he can really talk. Very often will find children in walmart that recognize him from the school, and most of the time I can hear them say"look mommy this is the kid that can't talk", most of the time with a big smile and soft tone I will said 'yes he can talk, but sometimes he doesn't want to. but continue trying to talk to him and one day I'm sure he will answer you.
It take a lot of effort to build communication, but a year ago tarek couldn't put 2 words together and today he can do it . So have fun with dramatic play because can be a really good opportunity to develop language and social skills.
