Paraphimosis and Down Syndrome...scary times!!!

What a scary time we had in May, it was so bad that I couldn't write about it, but maybe the information out can help somebody.
Tarek was circumcised after he was born after a big debate for months with his father, but for some reason his circumcision looks different that other children and we discussed to redo it or Not and we left it the way that it was.
Well they call me from school on a Friday that tarek kind of pee his pants which it was very strange for him. On that night his penis look different almost like his circumcision was fixed but with some swelling behind the head. But next morning he came to the room and told me "fix it" "close it"  , honestly after checking the area had no idea what to do, so I gave him a warm bath and started googling like crazy. I have to say that I never thought I will be one day googling pictures of penises lol but the pictures keep pointing to "Paraphimosis" so we took him to the clinic. The Doctor gave us the scary look and send us to the Emergency room.

Been at the ER 2 doctors check Tarek and confirmed the "paraphimosis" and explained how important was to fix it ASAP!!! they consult with an Urologyst and put a lodecaine cream on tarek penis and some ice. My first recommendation for other parents will be to make sure they put the maximum RX numbing cream available because the procedure is extremely painful. Creams like "EMLA" are much better that the regular cream that put on tarek. After 1/2 hour 2 doctors and a nurse came to do the procedure . I went out the room and left my Husband with Tarek, but after minutes and minutes of screams , and attempts to pull the skin over the head of the penis, I went inside like a Dinosaur mom screaming  that "IT WAS ENOUGH" that my son it was in distress and we had to find another way. I never heard him cry and scream like this,,,,,
They successfully pull half of the skin down , so half of this nightmare was gone. At that point I was doubting why we didn't do an Emergency circumcision.
The Doctor came  back and he tried one more time, this time everybody was more calm, he was more gentle, and the Magic work!!!
We were dismiss from ER with a Cream for him to be put on top of his penis that hopefully will help to thin the skin and open that area.
Honestly from ALL Tarek procedures and surgeries "Paraphimosis scare" was the worse from all of them. Had been 2 1/2 months and it did not happened again.
Hopefully this information will help somebody else and also Tarek never goes though this experience again.

Symptoms

The foreskin is pulled back (retracted) behind the rounded tip of the penis (glans) and stays there. The retracted foreskin and glans become swollen. This makes it difficult to return the foreskin to its extended position.
Symptoms include:
  • Inability to pull the retracted foreskin over the head of the penis
  • Painful swelling at the end of the penis
  • Pain in the penis

Exams and Tests

A physical exam confirms the diagnosis. The health care provider will usually find a "doughnut" around the shaft near the head of the penis (glans).

Treatment

Pressing on the head of the penis while pushing the foreskin forward may reduce the swelling. If this fails, prompt surgical circumcision will be needed.
